Viewing: Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Rhome Funeral Home Inc., family owned and operated as a member of the Golden Rule, 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen where friends will be welcomed from 1-3 and 6-8, Tuesday, July 16.
The Godla Family request that memorial contributions be made to a charity of ones choice in lieu of flowers.
Obituary:
Frank M. Godla, 91 of Perryopolis, formerly of Monessen, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013.
He was born September 6, 1921 in Monessen, a son of the late John and Mary Lengyel Godla.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukranian Orthodox Church of Monessen, Local #354 of Pipefitters Union, American Legion Post # 28 of Monessen and the Perryopolis VFW.
Mr. Godla was a 1940 Graduate of Monessen High School. After graduation, he played baseball for the New York Yankees' farm team until his induction into the United States Army. While in the Army, Mr. Godla served with the 332nd Ardm Sq 3rd CC Gp 10th Air Force in India Burma, Central Burma, and China Offensive seeing ground combat in each.
After WWII, Frank returned to the city he loved and had missed, Monessen. He was the owner and President of "Frank M. Godla Mechanical Inc." and was still very involved in the operations of the business after 68 years in the trade.
Mr. Godla was an avid sports fan who loved his family, his business, and his family pets.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years- Helen Yankosky Godla. Three sons- Gary P. and wife Lana Godla of Perryopolis, Dr. Gregory and wife Paulette Godla of Upper St. Clair, and Glenn M. and Miriah Godla of Belle Vernon. Four grandchildren-Melissa Godla of New Jersey, Ashley Godla of Allentown, PA, Dr. Christopher Godla of Hawaii, and Jillian Godla of Pittsburgh. Also, numerous nieces and nephews .
He was the last member of his immediate family, having been preceeded in death by Seven Brothers, and one Sister.
